Executive Functioning (EF) is basically the brain's management system. EF is a set of mental skills including working memory, flexible thinking, and self-control that are used daily to learn, work, and manage daily life.

Explore the Experiences of Muslim Youth Growing Up in Dearborn, Michigan:
- Before watching the movie, watch this Youtube video about "KWLS Charts" and their purposes- Using a sheet of paper, draw your own KWLS chart (or you can use this printable KWLS template)
- Complete the "K" section of the chart listing what your child thinks s/he already knows about being Muslim
- Complete the "W" section of the chart listing 3-4 things that your child would like to know about being Muslim
- During the movie, prompt your child to think about what s/he is learning about some of the experiences the youth in the movie have - especially during the Muslim Holy Month of "Ramadan"
- Complete the "L" portion of the chart for what your child learns about some experiences of Muslim life
- After the movie, discuss the movie events, characteristics of the featured students/families, your child's thoughts
- Complete the "S" portion of the chart for what you child still wants to know or learn about being Muslim
- Use the internet or library to see if you can help your child find the answers that have been listed in the "S" portion of the KWLS chart
For added fun, help your child to create a short presentation about your child or family's holy days or celebrations.
